BY EVAN BUSH ANCHOR CHRISTINA HARTMAN More bad news for President Obama ahead of his jobs speech — Solyndra, a California company that benefited from a $535 million dollar stimulus loan and Mr. Obama’s public support shut its doors Wednesday and declared bankruptcy. Now, it’s being investigated by the FBI. ABC’s Brian Ross has the background: “Up until the very end, the Obama administration said it was money well-spent: creating more than 3000 jobs at a so-called green company that made solar panels. The company’s bankruptcy Wednesday punctured that claim and led Republicans in Congress to question whether undue influence by Obama campaign supporters was involved in what appears to be a half billion dollar hit for taxpayers.” Solyndra has been under scrutiny after claims the Department of Energy showed favoritism to the company. iWatch News reports: “The company, which counted among its investors a major fundraiser for President Obama, had received a half-billion dollar government loan following a fast-track approval process and involving an interest rate lower than other green projects [benefiting] from Energy Department help.” Things got even messier Thursday — the FBI and Energy Department inspectors raided Solyndra’s California offices. n 1860, Thomas M. Armstrong, the son of Scotish-Irish immigrants from Londonderry, joined with John D. Glass to open a one-room shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, carving bottle stoppers from cork by hand. Their first deliveries were made in a wheelbarrow. He was a business pioneer in some respects: he branded each cork he shipped as early as 1864, and soon was putting a written guarantee in each burlap bag of corks he shipped from his big new factory. The company grew to be the largest cork supplier in the world by the 1890s. The company incorporated in 1891. Cork began being displaced by other closures, but the company introduced insulating corkboard and brick. In 1906, two years before he died, Thomas Armstrong concluded that the solid foundation of the future was covered with linoleum, and construction began on a new factory in a cornfield at the edge of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1909, Armstrong linoleum was first offered to the trade. After corkboard, the logical move was to fiberboard, and then to ceiling board. Cork tile and linoleum led to vinyl flooring, then ceramic tile, laminate flooring and carpeting. During the weeks of nasty congressional hearings and even nastier columns in the press since solar panel maker Solyndra declared bankruptcy, it’s been widely assumed that the debacle cost the government over half a billion dollars. That huge loss may not come to pass. As the guarantor of the loan the company received to build a state-of-the-art factory in Fremont, Calif., the government is on the hook for the $527 billion Solyndra ultimately borrowed. But it’s not as though Solyndra is completely worthless. The company has some assets it could sell. It has that state-of-the-art factory, all the equipment inside, and a sizable inventory of solar panels. During bankruptcy hearings earlier this week, Solyndra chief financial officer WG Stover said the company had $859 million in assets and $749 million in liabilities at the start of 2011. How much those assets are worth now that the company has folded, and where the federal government stands as creditors line up to get their money back, are questions that will be hashed out in bankruptcy court over the next few weeks or months. Businessman Herman Cain, considered a strong outsider in the Republican race to be the Presidential nominee in 2012 officially dropped out of the race this weekend. As reported here last week, a scandal erupted when an alleged former lover claimed she and Cain had been involved in an affair for over a decade. Now that Cain has left the race, many pundits are speculating who his supporters will get behind now. Many of the pundits are expecting his supporters to back Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, but the moderator of one of the largest Herman Cain internet forums came out in support of Ron Paul after Cain’s announcement. With Cain’s credibility ruined, one wonders if he and his supporters will back a known adulterer (Newt Gingrich). Considering Cain’s outspoken stance against establishment candidates, it is also unlikely many of his supporters will join the Romney camp. This leaves only one other legitimate candidate, Ron Paul. Cain supporters are not the only ones that are being attracted to the Revolution. Recently, the former chair of the Belknap Democrat organization in New Hampshire, Lynn Chong, joined Andrew Napolitano on Freedom Watch, explaining her concern about President Obama’s policies and that she resigned from the Democrat party to vote for Ron Paul in the New Hampshire primaries. In this video, I show my fellow players how to make efficient free zones (1:30 and 24:10). I also made one zone the way I usually do to compare to the efficiency of my free zone design (12:30 and 19:38). Also shown is my trade overview (18:13). Replace with plaza of choice 5:15 If you prefer, you can replace the roads connecting the inside with the outside road with small avenues. Keep the inner roads as roads tho, it’s NO USE WASTING SPACE WITH AVENUES AS INNER ROADS unless it is a large high density zone.
